So, we had this super insightful training with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) at Strongmas Group, and let’s just say… it was more than your regular “drive safely” talk. Sis came with receipts, facts, and truth bombs that made us look inward. We knew it was something worth sharing. Because let’s be honest, we Nigerians love to blame everything on Tinubu, but are we helping ourselves?
The session opened our eyes to a lot of things we may have heard before but never truly considered, this was like “you’ll remember this the next time you’re driving” kind of talk. One of the most striking points made was: about 80% of road accidents are caused by human error. Not just bad roads. Not just the rain. Not the government. Us. Drivers. Car owners. Road users.
It made us think: Are we really doing our part?
We tend to shift the blame easily, but when we leave our homes with a faulty car, skip routine checks, ignore signs, or rush through traffic like we own the road, we’re adding to the problem. And while it’s easy to believe commercial buses are the usual suspects, the data says otherwise many accidents involve private vehicles and trucks.
There was a time coaster bus accidents were frequent until speed limiters were introduced. Since then, they’ve drastically reduced. That shows that with structure and accountability, change is possible.
The workshop wasn’t just theory. A story was shared about a driver who was diabetic and began to feel weak behind the wheel. He was calling for a Coke, clearly in distress. Yet, fellow drivers passing by were cursing and honking, unaware of his condition. That moment could’ve ended in tragedy. And it made one thing clear: sometimes, the danger isn’t the road itself it’s our lack of awareness, patience, and empathy.

It’s the way we’re always in a hurry. Quick to insult, slow to understand. How did we become so aggressive behind the wheel that empathy feels like a luxury? Could it be Lagos traffic…. hahahaha
But the truth is: sanity on the road starts with you and me. And if we can just learn to pause, to care, to pay attention. we’d save more lives than we know.
We have to do better.
We forget so easily that everyone; drivers, pedestrians, animals, even Fulani herders and their cows have a right to the road. Safety is a shared responsibility. Children should not sit in the front seat, no matter how loud they cry. The danger is greater than the tears.
And when accidents happen, don’t forget the stress of getting a hospital to admit someone in critical condition. It’s the irreversible loss of a life that could’ve been saved. These are the realities no one talks about enough.
We can’t control every pothole, every impatient driver, or every unexpected moment on the road, but Strongmas Automobile can control how prepared we are before getting behind the wheel. And that preparation starts with awareness, empathy, and regular maintenance.
In our recent blog, we talked about the three types of repairs: preventive, corrective, and emergency. At Strongmas Automobile, we specialize in all three but more importantly, but we always advocate for preventive maintenance first. You don’t need to wait for your car to embarrass you on Third Mainland before you check it.
Because the truth is, anyone can be a victim. And what you do—or don’t do—can make all the difference. The adage says it best: “Doing the right thing at the right time is never wrong.”
Let’s not wait till the brake fails, or till smoke comes from the bonnet. Check your brakes, test your tires, fire extinguishers should be checked and filled. we’re not just about repairs. We care about the people inside those cars. Every driver. Every passenger.
We’ve also made it easier for you through our social media platforms sharing tips, DIY advice, and everything you need to make smarter decisions about your car.
We can’t control the entire road, but we can control the choices we make before we get on it.
We’ve only scratched the surface.
Anticipate the next blog post! More insights, more real stories, and more life-saving lessons from the training and how Strongmas Automobile is creating safer drivers.
